Lisa K. Richter is a writer based in southern California.

Her book, Fly, My Darling, a story of music, personal awakening, and the resilient love between two women, is forthcoming April 2026 from She Writes Press. Based on Lisa’s years together with musician and composer Lynda Roth, Fly, My Darling is an intimate, lyrical narrative. A love story that begins with a midlife desire to learn jazz.

She is the author of Searching for the Talisman, an online essay series rooted in memoir and inspired by the classic 1929 Italian cookbook, Il Talismano della Felicità. A contemplation of family, food, the senses, and the Italian language, her essays offer a playful inquiry into the culinary and life advice found in the historic cookbook.

Her poetry and stories have been published in journals and anthologies including Santa Monica Review, Squaw Valley Review, Months to Years, Accolades, BioStories, Beach Reads, Orange Coast Review, and Unbroken Journal. She holds an MFA in fiction, earned her BA in mathematics from the University of Virginia, and in 2002 founded a company teaching computer coding to young people.

Lisa grew up on the east coast, lived years in Europe where her daughter and son were born, and now resides with her partner Paul in southern California. To settle, to quiet, she wanders into her garden. Such wild abundance! Tomatoes, zucchini, Meyer lemons. Succulent, god-sweetened figs. She sits among them in awe and listens to them grow.
